Adventure Description |
 |
Located at the base of Mount Buffalo, the mircrolighting school operates from the Porepunkah airstrip. This area is protected from the strong winds more common to the coast, and with the weather north of Australia's Great divide being more stable, this region is an ideal place to take flight.
On arrival you will recieve a pre-flight safety briefing in preparation for your amazing flight. Rather than running from a hilltop, the microlight takes off from the ground with the aid of the rear mounted engine three-wheel trike base. Instead of lying down under the wing to fly it, you will be comfortably seated.
You will climb to a height of 6000 feet and then your pilot will switch off the engine for a silent glide back to the airstrip. During your flight you will be shown how the glider is controlled, and be given the opportunity to control the glider under instruction. It's all about weight shift, and it has been described as sort of like riding a flying motorbike! It's very easy to learn and so simple to control that for the most part you feel like the microlight is flying itself.
While you're up in the air, take the time to absorb the spectacular scenery below you including the Mount Buffalo gorge and waterfalls. You will circle the historic Buffalo chalet, and in winter, skim above the snow-capped plateau and frozen Lake Catani.
Why not also take your flight at the same time as a friend. You’ll be able to take off together so you can share the experience flying "wingtip to wingtip" all the way!
Take your flight during the day, or witness the amazing and colourful changes in the sky by taking a sunset expereince. Digital photos are included if you choose the sunset experience. Wing-mounted cameras will capture your whole flight on film. You will also receive a certificate of merit after your flight, which counts towards further training in Microlighting!
